Frequently Asked Questions

  • The terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably. Generally, counselling focuses on a specific, immediate problem, such as stress or a life change, and is often shorter-term. Psychotherapy can be more in-depth, exploring long-standing patterns of behaviour, past experiences, and unconscious processes. However, as a BACP-registered member, my approach is integrative, meaning I draw from different therapeutic methods to create a bespoke plan that suits your unique needs and goals.

  • Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, "stuck," or struggling to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, or burnout. Perhaps you’re feeling like something needs to change in your life. Maybe you’re looking to understand yourself and your relationships more. Therapy can offer a safe, confidential space to explore your feelings without judgement. It's a proactive step toward your wellbeing. The free 15-minute consultation I offer is a great way to see if we are a good fit and if therapy with me is the right path for you.

  • Therapy involves confidential, one-to-one talking sessions where you can share what's on your mind. We will work together to help you understand your challenges and develop strategies to navigate them. It’s a collaborative process where I will support you in gaining new perspectives and making positive changes.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long. We can meet on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on what is most suitable for you and your circumstances.

  • Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of my practice. As a BACP-registered member, I adhere to a strict ethical framework that ensures your privacy. There are very few exceptions to this, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. Any limits to confidentiality will be fully explained and discussed with you in our first session.

  • It's completely normal to want to verify a therapist's credentials. As a professional, I am dedicated to being transparent and accountable. My qualifications and professional standing are a matter of public record, and I encourage you to verify them.

You can be sure of my professional standing and competence in the following ways:

    • Professional Body Registration: I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This is a highly respected professional body in the UK. My membership signifies that I meet the highest standards of proficiency, am held to a strict ethical framework, and am committed to continuous professional development. You can verify my registration by searching my name or membership number on the BACP Register.

    • Public Accountability: The BACP Register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA). This independent body provides an extra layer of assurance that I adhere to rigorous standards and am subject to a complaints and disciplinary procedure if my professional conduct were ever to fall short.

    • Qualifications: I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy with Distinction, and you can ask to see my certificates and other relevant documents during our first session.

    • Insurance: I hold professional indemnity insurance, which is a requirement for all BACP-registered practitioners.

By checking these credentials, you can be confident that you are working with a qualified, ethical, and bona fide professional.
